Wushwini Community

About Us

The Wushwini Community in KwaNgcoIosi not far from Hillcrest, under Inkosi Bhengu who is the former Chairperson of the House of Traditional Leaders in KwaZuIu Natal. This is a poverty stricken area where a large percentage of the community is unemployed especially the youth and women. The area has lots of orphans due to political violence during the 1980’s and 1990’s and although the area is now peaceful, it is now faced by a new challenge of HIV/AIDS. The young people are losing their parents to AIDS andbecoming orphaned and depend on other members of the community who are already struggling to get by, themselves.

UHURU COMMUNITY INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL

Uhuru International Arts Festival was founded in 2013 to celebrate Africa Month and was staged for the first time in 2014 which was marked as a year of celebrating South Africa’s 20 years of democracy. Uhuru is a Swahili word meaning freedom we chose siSwahili to emphasize that our celebration is not only for South Africans but is for the continent as a whole especially the countries who assisted us during the years of struggle and the countries who are struggling with democracy.

BOTHO HERITAGE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
23-26 SEPTEMBER 2021

Botho Heritage International Festival was staged for the first time in 2014 and is growing stronger each year in 2021 it was officially launched by the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Mr Nathi Mthethwa. Botho is a Sotho word meaning Ubuntu/Humanity, A call to going back to our roots of Ubuntu, reminding ourselves that we are who we are because of the others, calling for love, peace and harmony.

National Child Protection Week is marked annually to raise awareness for the rights of children. It aims to mobilise all sectors of society to care for and protect children. Child Protection Week allows us to shine a spotlight on children’s issues; highlight successes and identify what still needs to be done.
